Voyager 1 is humanity’s most distant spacecraft.But even after a million years, it will barely have scratched the surface of the galaxy.Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 has been speeding away from Earth for 48 years. It now travels through interstellar space at about 38,000 miles per hour (61,000 km/h) – fast enough to circle the Earth in 40 minutes. Yet, space is so vast that this blistering speed barely makes a dent.In one million years, Voyager 1 will cover about 330 trillion miles (530 trillion km). That sounds enormous – until you realize it’s only about 56 light-years. For comparison, the Milky Way is roughly 100,000 light-years across. After a million years, Voyager 1 won’t even have crossed one-tenth of one percent of our galaxy.It will pass its first star encounter, a faint red dwarf called Gliese 445, in about 40,000 years – and then keep drifting silently onward. Interventional cardiology is experiencing a major advancement with the development of bioresorbable vascular scaffolds (BVS), also known as dissolvable heart stents. Unlike permanent metal stents that remain in the artery forever, these temporary scaffolds provide structural support to narrowed or blocked coronary arteries only during the critical healing period, typically six to twelve months.Made from biocompatible materials such as polylactide (PLLA) polymers or magnesium alloys, the stents gradually break down through natural metabolic processes. PLLA-based scaffolds are converted into lactic acid, which the body further metabolizes into water and carbon dioxide. Magnesium scaffolds are similarly absorbed and excreted. The entire process is usually complete within two to three years, leaving no foreign material behind.This “vanishing” property allows the treated artery to restore its natural flexibility, pulsation, and vasomotor function — abilities often permanently restricted by rigid metal implants. By disappearing, these stents also reduce long-term risks such as chronic inflammation, late thrombosis, and in-stent restenosis. They may also make future interventions easier and improve overall vessel health.While early versions faced some limitations (particularly in smaller vessels), newer generations of bioresorbable stents continue to improve in strength, deliverability, and safety. Ukrainian drone strikes hit multiple Moscow Oblast targets on May 17, including Gazpromneft’s Moscow refinery and Transneft’s Solnechnogorskaya oil loading station in Durykino. The refinery strike hit a construction site, while production capacity was not damaged. At Solnechnogorskaya, a diesel storage tank caught fire and flames spread to other reservoirs.
